Small Change

What Is It? has a nice collection of photos of various doodads, whatzits and thingamajigs. Your job is to figure out what they actually are. Here's one example, which looks like it could have been used during the Inquisition to get a confession out a particularly stubborn heretic. Click the photo on the left and scroll down a bit to find out what the heck this thing really is.

Another interesting pic in the site showed a regular quarter next to a quarter that was shrunken down somehow to the size of a dime. The question was, how did they do that?

Bert's Quarter Shrinking and Can Crushing Gallery shows the effects of what happens when you create an extremely strong electromagnetic field around a metal object, in effect crushing it down to a fraction of its original size. Neat!
