Me vs. the Mazda

23.5 miles per gallonIt's official. I now get better gas mileage than my car. Answer some questions and discover: How many MPG does your body get?

I'd fill up, but I'm terrified to find out just where I'm supposed to insert the pump.

Wait... Blogs can't vote!

Information Nation screws up the election process

Amusing "Insert name of your choice into this video" encouraging all eligible US citizens to remember to vote. If you're a United Statesianite and are registered, please get out there and vote on November 4th. You don't want the whole country on your case...

Make your own personalized video here.

To play devil's advocate and really overthink this, if I McCain really did win by a single vote, the blame wouldn't rest entirely on me... If I could somehow go back and cast my ballot for Obama, that would result in an exact tie. So it would still take someone else's vote to put Obama in the Win column. Right? Have I managed to completely suck the joy right out of this cute little video yet?

Anyway, I'm in the clear... since I'm working at one of the voting precincts on election day, I already absentee voted. So there. Neener neener. (thanks for the link, Lou!)

Double the games in half the time

Hey Old-Skool Gamers! Remember those classics like Pong and Breakout, but lament the fact that you just don't have enough time anymore to play them? Why not play 'em both at the same time?

Pong Out 2 has a split screen in which you move your mouse left/right to play the Breakout on the left side, while simultaneously moving your mouse up/down to play the Pong game going on over on the right side of your screen.

I have just enough coordination to get through a level or two of this. If the next version is called Pong Kong Pac Out or something, my head might just explode.

The B-Side of the planet

antipodes [(an-tip'-uh-deez)]

noun
1. Any two places or regions on diametrically opposite sides of the Earth; "the North Pole and the South Pole are antipodes"

Type in an address and find out what's on the opposite side of the world with Antipodr.

The concept of the antipodes set to music à la They Might Be Giants - "Ana Ng" from their 1988 release Lincoln.

Meatbag vs Meathead

Stuck for a great Halloween costume idea? (Body)bag it! (via All Night Surfing)

Speaking of bodybags, I am guessing Brad Sciullo may be getting up-close and personal with the interior of one sooner rather than later. You see, he recently ate a 20-pound hamburger. Yes, you read that correctly. Twenty. Pound. Hamburger. A followup interview can be ingested here.

Hey Brad... you gonna eat all that?

"Not Perfect" = Perfect

"Not Perfect" by Australian comedian/actor/musician Tim Minchin. Whether you are an old fan or a new one like me, I bet you'll enjoy this. Stop by his website for more info.

Disclaimer: Some of Mr. Minchin's songs contain a number of what you might consider R-rated words (upon further review, the rating would lean more towards NC17 -- still pretty funny, but not meant for the kids). The contents of this particular video are safe for all ears, though.

I'm Just a Hunk-a, Hunk-a Burnin' Love

Riddle me this...

I am a giant middle-aged blob of hot gas with a fiery temperament. People have a hard time even looking at me, and I can make even the coolest of cucumbers sweat. I am quite the hottie, and I firmly believe that the whole world revolves around me.

Who am I?

Hint: No, I am not Rush Limbaugh.

Give up?

It's me! Mister Sun! Check out these totally sweet pics of me at my job, lighting and heating the solar system.

"...and I'd like to thank all the little people..."

Sydney, Australia-based photographer Keith Loutit creates lovely tilt-shifted time-lapse short films. His aim, he says, "is to present Sydney as the Model City, and help people take a second look at places that are very familiar to them." You can see more of his films on the Keith Loutit Vimeo page. When the weatherman said we were due for "some of the white stuff", I don't think this was what he had in mind

A pirate walked into a bar and the bartender said, "Hey, I haven't seen you in a while. What happened? You look terrible."

"Shiver me timbers, what be ye talkin' about, lad?", said the pirate, "I feel fine!"

"Well," the bartender replies, "What about the wooden leg? You didn't have that before."

The pirate says, "Aye, ye speak true, ye scallywag. We were in a battle and a cannon ball took it clean off, but I'm fine now."

"Well, OK," replied the bartender, "But what about that hook? How did you lose your hand?"

The pirate replied, "We were in another battle. I boarded a ship, got into a sword fight and me hand got cut off. Me ship's sawbones fitted me with this fine hook, bless 'im. 'Twas nothin' ta speak of. Yarrrr!"

"But what about that eye patch?" asked the bartender.

The pirate answered, "Oh, one day we were at sea when a flock o' birds flew over. I looked up and one o' them pooped in me eye."

"You're kidding!" said the bartender, "You lost an eye just from bird poop?"

"Aarrgghh!" said the pirate, 'Twas me first day with the new hook."

Protip: When you are reporting on a local bird infestation and notice a bird has pooped on your jacket, it isn't wise to look up, and even more unwise to look up with your mouth open.

Meanwhile, back in the studio, things take an even more disturbing turn...

On the other hand, I guess things could be worse. Much, much, much worse.

I've even heard of some people who put notes on them

The non-evil geniuses at Eepybird are at it again. From the guys who dared to mix Diet Coke and Mentos, it's The Sticky Note Experiments. Sticky note waterfalls, pinwheels and other nifty tricks. Bigger and better-looking versions of the vids can also be found here at Vimeo. Very fun, very colorful. Nice job, guys!

Post-It Note Elvis Mosaic (via Relentlessly Optimistic) and a step-by-step guide to how they put it all together.

Eye/Guess

If you think you have a pretty good eye for guesstimation, try The Eyeballing Game. You are shown various geometric shapes, and your job is to move the mouse to find the center, or bisect the angle, make a right angle, etc.

The lower your score, the better. My score was decent except for finding the center of a triangle. I apparently really, really suck at that :-/ (via The Presurfer)
